The 2009 AGM - John James Retires as Chairman after 22 years !

The 2009 AGM took place on Monday April 6th during the club night. It followed the normal format of formal minutes, election of officers, Chairman's and Treasurers reports and voting to select this years guest charity. However, the main difference this year was that John James was stepping down as chairman after 22 years.

In Johns final report he stated how honoured he felt to serve the club and see it flourish and grow. He made a point of thanking all that had helped the club in whatever capacity over the years whether that be by serving on the committee, or simply helping out in any way. For a club of our size we should be proud of the amount we had raised for charity. John thanked his wife Janet for her support and also mentioned how grateful he was for the support he had received from members during his recent illness.

Following the formal AGM John Miles then thanked John J for his years of service and invited Vaughan Jones to present John J with a wonderful 'Red Dragon' trophy. Vaughan is a long serving SWCCC member and was part of the club in those early days so it was very fitting for Vaughan to make this presentation. Pauline Champion then presented Janet with a lovely bouquet of flowers for her 22 year role as SWCCC 'first lady.'

John J then cut the celebration cake following which we were all treated to a very extensive finger buffet. Thanks must go to all who helped organise the evening - the card, trophy, flowers, cake and food were all of a high standard and made this unique evening very special.

Finally, we must thank JJ once again for all his service to the club, but as John M said to JJ on the night "it's time to stand back and take it easy."
