The 2009 BBQ at Amelia Trust Farm

What does the following image of Cheryl and Pam cuddling together to keep warm evoke memories of – Arctic Wasteland, April showers, Winter ? No it’s actually the recent summer BBQ held at Amelia Trust Farm on Friday 24th July.……

In fact, we can’t complain, compared to some recent years the weather was good. The rain held off, but there was a slight breeze and it felt quite chilly as it began to get dark when this photo was taken.

The turn out wasn’t the best I have seen, but there was still a good crowd – this meant that some of us had 4 of everything ! Some notable absentees were Pauline and Malcolm Champion who I believe were going to do the cooking, but sadly Malcolm had lost his Mum a few days before, so they were not able to attend. Our sympathies go to them both and all the family.

Into the breach then, at short notice as head chef was our illustrious Chairman Alan Thomas, with what seemed like a very efficient group of helpers. Sorry, I don’t know your names, but you know who you were – You all did a fantastic job.

Everyone enjoyed themselves – I think it is an ideal location for our BBQ. During a stroll back from the loos I found Nigel Taylor quietly admiring some pigs and sheep, maybe we should keep a very careful eye on him in the future ;-)

A lot of people were showing off various new acquisitions. Notably, Keith Selley showing off his new wedding ring, bits of stale wedding cake and a new car. There was also some annoying git showing off an old (but sadly not classic) knackered Porsche and giving rides – this person must remain nameless and keep his head down………

Interesting fact – 2/3rds of all Porsche ever made are still on the road – belching oil, large amounts of CO2 and making funny noises, but still on the road. Wow!

cheers - Richard P
