The 2010 Drive it Day-

The clubs 5th annual Drive it Day took place on Sunday 25th April. Though the weather was not brilliant, the rain managed to hold off for most of the trip....

Stuart Powell had planned a great day leaving San Park and travelling to the Gower via the Afan valley and a mid-morning tea/ coffee/ biscuit stop at the very interesting 'Tower Hotel' in Jersey Marine.

We continued on via mumbles and eventually arrived at Oxwich for lunch. The staff at the Oxwich Bay Hotel did us proud and the meal was truly excellent !

We then moved on the the Wales Air Ambulance HQ based at Swansea Airport - the staff were very welcoming and I have it on good authority that thay found us interesting too, especially our selection of cars.

It was fascinating chatting to the Paramedics and Pilot about the work of the HEMS - everyone is always amazed that they are funded as a charity and rely upon people such as ourselves and not some kind of Central Funding by the government - but thats enough of politics ...... especially this week !

After about an hour I was with a group of people including Gill Davies chatting to the Pilot - the conversation went something like this -

Me (Richard Pegg) - "...So how many calls do you average a day then?"

Pilot - "About three".....

Gill -"..and how many so far today..?"

Pilot- " None - its been very quiet - but I can have this thing started in 40 seconds and we aim to lift within 2 minutes - we just listen for that bell over there....."

Gill / Me and others - "wow...."

Bell on side of Portakabin - " Ring Ring, Ring Ring, Ring Ring........."

Pilot (buckling his seat belt)- "Can you move these cars please...NOW "

We honestly thought for a while that it was a wind-up to get rid of us - but no, they were off on a shout, so for us it was a timely end..........

They chose John and Janets XK, Gareth and Gerrys' Gilbern, and Alan and Mary Brays

E-Type to join the Helicopter for the photo-shoot...

and then they were gone............
